Mana Wāhine Collective

ROC's First Former Refugee & Migrant Women's Enterprise Pathway

A supportive sisterhood where former refugee and migrant women earn a nationally recognised food safety qualification, master professional kitchen skills, and open new doors into New Zealand's hospitality world.

KEY COMPONENTS

1

NZQA Level 2 Certification

You begin by earning a nationally recognised NZQA Level 2 qualification in Food Safety. This credential is the foundation of every professional kitchen and opens employment opportunities across the food and hospitality sectors. You'll gain practical tools and techniques to confidently master safe food handling, hygiene standards, and kitchen essentials.

2

Practical Commercial Kitchen Experience

With your certification in hand, you step into a real commercial kitchen alongside an experienced head chef. Here you'll move beyond theory and into hands-on practice:

  • Learn the protocols and workflow of a professional kitchen

  • Master cooking confidently for larger batches

  • Build teamwork, timing, and kitchen communication skills

  • Experience the standards and discipline expected in a commercial environment

This is where your cooking traditions transform into job-ready, professional skills.

3

Language Support for the Whole Journey

We believe language should never be a barrier to opportunity. From your first day of certification through to your time in the commercial kitchen, qualified interpreters support you every step of the way.

The programme runs across four cohorts, each supported in:

  • Dari / Urdu

  • Kinyarwanda / Swahili

  • Spanish

  • Arabic

Smaller cohorts mean more individual attention, a stronger sense of community, and a pace that works for everyone — in a language you understand.
