Give Today to Strengthen Our Programs and Provide Hope for the Future. Help refugees build a brighter future in New Zealand.
Our Story
Founded in 2005, the Refugee Orientation Centre (ROC) was established by Guillaume Muzombo, Marie-Jeanne Muzombo, and Oscar Bulamba, refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo. After finding safety in New Zealand, the founders experienced firsthand the challenges of adapting to a new home. Inspired by their own struggles, they founded ROC to support others facing similar challenges in their resettlement journey.
Our motto, "For Refugees, By Refugees," is a call for action, representing the dedication of our founders to help refugees integrate into their new communities.
ROC has grown into a key pillar of support for refugees from a variety of countries, including the Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, Colombia, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, Myanmar, Rwanda, and more. With the help of over 80 volunteers, we offer practical programs designed for children, youth, and adults, promoting empowerment and self-sufficiency.
At ROC, we foster a culture of acceptance, love, and growth, working towards the goal of helping former refugees become independent and valuable contributors to their new home in New Zealand.

Services
ROC offers programs to empower migrants and refugees with practical life skills necessary for adapting to their new environment. Initiatives like the Ready-2-Drive and Road Code programs provide participants with essential knowledge about New Zealand's road safety and licensing requirements, helping them overcome barriers to employment and social integration. These programs ensure participants gain confidence and independence in their daily lives.
ROC’s youth initiatives aim to inspire and empower young migrants and refugees. Programs like the Catch-Up focus on academic growth in core subjects, while ROC Voice enhances leadership, communication, and public speaking skills. The Futsal Training and Tournaments foster teamwork and physical health, and Youth Camps build resilience and confidence through outdoor activities. These programs emphasize holistic development, offering a supportive environment for youth to thrive.
ROC's children-focused programs provide safe, enriching environments to support their development. The After-School Program nurtures social, emotional, and academic growth through personalized learning. The Holiday Program engages children with themed activities, crafts, and competitions, promoting creativity and teamwork. Additionally, the Incredible Years program supports parents in building positive relationships and effectively managing behavior, ensuring children grow in supportive family settings.
ROC supports the migrant and refugee community through tailored services, including assistance with integration, access to resources, and documentation via the JP Clinic. ROC also conducts research to understand challenges faced by these communities, using evidence-based approaches to improve support strategies. These services reflect ROC’s commitment to empowering and uplifting migrant and refugee communities.
